This page is a plain-English companion to the legal Privacy Policy. The legal policy controls if there is ever a difference.
What other people can see
People you connect with can see the things you choose to share with them. Some shared things are temporary. Some shared spaces may stay until you clear them or delete your account.
What other people cannot see
- No read receipts.
- No public follower list.
- No public feed.
- No public scores.
- No list showing who has been thinking of whom.
What Hum stores
Hum stores account information needed to run the app, such as your email address, optional phone number, profile details you choose to add, settings, connections, push notification tokens, and content needed to deliver app features.
The Privacy Policy also lists technical data used for security and reliability, such as crash reports, performance data, security events, and device identifiers for security verification.
What disappears automatically
Some shared things disappear automatically. The exact timing depends on the feature.
- Echoes, Signal, and Status content auto-delete based on their configured duration, up to 24 hours.
- The current Privacy Policy says Notes are auto-deleted after delivery or 24 hours, whichever is first.
What does not disappear automatically
- Canvas shared spaces may stay until you clear them or delete your account.
- Profile information, connections, and settings are retained until account deletion.
How contact matching works
Optional contact matching helps you find people you already know. Hum is designed not to store your raw contact list.
Raw phone numbers from contacts are processed transiently for matching and are not stored as a raw contact list. Only hashed values are used for matching.
How account deletion works
You can request account deletion inside Hum by opening Settings, then Account, then Delete Account.
Standard deletion includes a 30-day grace period before permanent removal. If immediate deletion is confirmed where available, the current account deletion page says data is deleted within 24 hours of confirmation.
Profile, connections, settings, avatar media, and account authentication records are removed during the deletion process. The legal policy explains the current retention rules.
Service providers
Hum does not sell personal data or share it for advertising. Hum uses service providers to run core app functions like hosting, authentication, database, storage, crash reporting, phone verification, and transactional email.
The Privacy Policy currently names Firebase/Google Cloud, Twilio, and SendGrid as service providers.
